What a thoroughly enjoyable book! I had a little trouble getting into the first book, the world is hard to comprehend; however, reading the second book was SO much easier and entertaining because I was already familiar with the quirkiness of the world and I could just swim along with the current of this story. Wonderful silliness surrounded by a good plot, interesting characters and a whimsical setting.
Read them in order. Read them.

Thursday Next has become something of a celebrity after the events in the eyre affair. She's enjoying her newly married life when a string of coincidences begins to occur then someone close to her becomes eradicated. Thursday also becomes a member of jurisfiction which involves a bunch of fictional characters policing books. An interesting, if complex read but I hate that the ending was a bit of a cliffhanger. Going to have to get to the next book in the series soon.

This took me a long time. I was engaged and love Fforde's ingenuity in the story line and the literary-science fiction-mystery mash up that he's created. But for some reason when I walked away from this book it didn't call me back immediately. For that reason, I had many days of no reading that set me back on my reading goals for the month.

I think I liked this book more than the previous Thursday Next book (The Eyre Affair). The world building was quite clever, the literary references fun and nicely interwoven, and the wry take on time travel and book-jumping entertaining. I'm tempted to start the next book immediately, but will probably read a few other things first. I think you could enjoy this book without having read the previous one, but it makes more sense as a part of the character building and world building to read these

unfortunately for this book, i was not in the right frame of mind while reading it-- having just come off catch-22 and a few murder mysteries, i was really more in the mood for something dark, which the thursday next series certainly is not. i want to go back and reread this when i can actually laugh at it, and not just objectively appreciate why it's funny.

This was another fun adventure with Thursday. Some really fun story lines... Coincidences, eradicated husbands, a crazy book buying experience, and the end of the world. A lot to cover in a book, but Fforde was able to do it wonderfully.
It did end with lots of unanswered questions, so I know I will be reading more books in the series.

I am falling in love with this series and can't wait to read the other 3!

Another Thursday book done and dusted and I have the third just ready to be read soon. It's such a great concept and I love that I'm being introduced to more novels inside the book itself. This book makes me want to pick up Great Expectations!
