I really enjoyed this story, and it was interesting to read a book from the Horses perspective.
I found the story got me emotional in quite a few spots, it was very well written and easy to relate too.
The author did a fantastic job of taking us into the war and making us feel what the Horse Joey was feeling. He also did a wonderful job showing how many lives an animal can touch and leave a positive impression on.

A nice children's book - nothing particularly special in the story, the writing, or the characters, but a good enough book to give to someone maybe age 8-12. I can imagine reading this book with my children at some point when they are just a little older (they are 4 and 7 now). I read this as part of a book club and I think the general feeling was similar -- we hadn't realized quite how targeted at young children this book is. This is an author who churns out books and this feels like a fairly p

One book I had wanted to read for a long time; sadly I couldn't get my hands on an English version but the Spanish one I got wasn't shabby at all. Having already seen the movie I didn't expect to get so emotional about certain scenes I knew were going to happen; I still did. I love it when a book makes me cry and it isn't a usual happening for me; curiously enough, last time I cried while reading a book was a scene from Lord of the Rings that involved a horse, too.

I am reviewing two books today. One that gave my mind a workout and the other that gave my heart a workout. (this is the heart one.) I welled up with tears at least three or four times throughout this story. I'm terrified to see the movie as I am sure I would be bawling my eyes out. As I recommend books for kids I always have to take emotional fragility into account. I am not a particularly strong animal lover and am a full grown adult who deals with all kinds of emotional stuff all the time. If

In the tradition of Black Beauty and other books told from an animal's point of view, this is the story of Joey, a beautiful red-bay horse who begins as a farm horse but is sold to the army and becomes a war horse. I wasn't fully caught up in the story until right towards the end. A nice enough book, though, for students wanting to read a horse story or a war story.

This is a really simple, but lovely story told from the point of view of Joey, a horse. I liked that perspective very much and although it is clearly YA, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
