This is the start of the Alex Cross series.
Two children are abducted from a very elite private school, by one of their teachers.
Alex Cross and his partner are called in to assist in the investigation as the children have some very high profile parents. When one of the children shows up dead the heat is turned up to try and find the still missing Maggie Rose.
While the Detectives try to work alongside the FBI, the story takes some very interesting turns.

Okay, so it was a great murder mystery--no surprise from Patterson. But, I was not very pleased with the main character(s). I won't be starting up this series. Found them unbelievable, over the top (DC black crime, black PhD detective who decided to keep living in SE DC). Couldn't relate to them. I'll just keep reading Patterson's other stuff.
