What a great commentary of the role of technology in the human life! I got goosebumps thinking how similar is our modern life to Vashti's.

I feel I need to read it again to really understand the nuances and write a thorough review.

Interesting stories if you look at them from the point of view of Forster's sexual orientation and see them as an allegory in that sphere. Taken at face value, they would seem like a poor imitation of H.G. Wells, but Forster had a different social agenda. ...more

This was an intriguing short story. Push to its logical conclusion the use of technology to do everything it can for us, and what will happen? Unlike many science fiction classics published early in the twentieth century, this didn't feel terribly dated to me. It's a quick, enjoyable read. ...more
