I was looking forward to this book, and honestly I was pretty disappointed. First off, I just didn't think this book was that well written. There was no subtlety, Lim would constantly just say straight how how Natalie was feeling and why, even when it seemed awkward and like an info-dump. Like "I looked at him. I was sad. I knew I was going to leave him just like I left my ex-fiancé at the altar, and all because I haven't gotten over the fact that my father abandoned me as a child". No amount of

This was a fun, light read. I liked reading about the different people in the neighborhood and the foods that Natalie makes. The book is a little bit predictable, but sometimes predictable can be comforting. The author does a good job of bringing the neighborhood and culture of San Francisco's China Town to life. Overall it was a fun read to pass the day.

This was a light breezy read. I enjoyed the flavor of San Francisco's Chinatown. Shows the importance of food, heritage, and family with a touch of romance and magical realism thrown in. EBN15 category: a book with a recipe in it.
