This is a retelling of Aladdin and I was surprised that I enjoyed it, because going into it I was a little nervous I wouldn't.
In this novel, Aladdin is still a cunning thief but he doesn't have a sidekick of a monkey. The genie is a girl named Zahra and as the story progresses we learn more of her backstory (how she became a genie and what happened to have left her confined to her lamp for 400 years).

A gorgeous retelling of Aladdin!! I think I much prefer this story than the Disney one; not that I don't like Jasmine but the girls in the book really kick ass. They are all very capable ladies and great examples for young girls.
