So..... I decide to go to go off the Paris for 7 weeks, and which books would serve me best? I ended up taking this one (on Audible... too bad Julia Child didn't narrate the book her self... but you can't have everything). It's equally enchanting as she gets rapturous about cheese or a fish market, and equally funny as she tussles with her co-authors. I am a Parisian trained chef, so Julia Child has ALWAYS been my hero and I loved her TV show when I was growing up for the unconscious flirtations

It's odd how as a child you form negative impressions of various famous people who turn out to be just the ones you admire the most as an adult. Johnny Cash is one of those for me. Julia Child is another. This book turned me into a huge admirer. Learned so much about her.

Overall, this was VERY enjoyable to read - much more so than I expected. Julia Child's personality comes through loud and clear, especially her enthusiasm and devotion to the things she loves. This is great for anyone wanting to know more about French cuisine, Julia Child, France in the 1940s and '50s from an American's perspective, or even if you just want to read a really well-done memoir.

I really enjoyed listening to the audiobook version of this book. Since I didn't grow up watching Julia Child on television, it didn't bother me that it wasn't read in her own voice. I very much enjoyed hearing the author's story of becoming interested in cooking for the first time while living in France when her husband was working for the foreign service. The description of the creation and editing of the first cookbook was also wonderful. I've cooked from Child's cookbook before, but knew ver

I loved reading about Julia and her life. I had read Julie and Julia: 365 Days, 524 Recipes, 1 Tiny Apartment Kitchen and seen the movie and it was good reading Julia's story.

I started to read this just after I finished Julie and Julia and was very impressed with the parts about Julia's early life in France learning to cook. I found that it didn't have the sane pizazz once she left Paris. I'll pass this along to Toni who loves her food and cooks amazingly!
