I must say it was excellent. Quite the page turner. I enjoyed Emma's character even when I know I probably shouldn't. But I could relate to her at times. Charles was a fool, who I didn't pity or feel sorry for. At first yes I did, and first I liked his character but, I guess you'll just have to read it for yourselves to understand why I feel the way I do towards him.

This was really more of a 3.5 stars for me. I thought the writing was exquisite, but the characters gave me a headache. The plot actually had a fair bit of action, with adultary and people out to deceive one another, but it took so long to get to the point, that it lost something. I also didn't care a thing for any of the characters. The only thing that made me happy was each time I finishe

This book had a strange kind of inevitability, as the characters pathways and desires drove them to their destinies. It was interesting how dissatisfaction and blindness to those around you led to unfortunate consequences where as Homais' desire for power got him what he desired.
