Although I was a little skeptical about the book after the 1st two chapters, it won me over. I could not help but fall in love with the wonderful cast of characters that lived in Whistle Stop. I looked forward to finding out a little more of the past and how all the characters fit together.

Evelyn Couch is an unhappy housewife living in Alabama. While visiting the nursing home her mother-in-law has been put in Evelyn befriends Ninny Threadgoode. Ninny tells Evelyn all about her home town of Whistle Stop and the cafe there run by Idgie and Ruth. I loved the characters especially Ninny. The book does skip around a lot in time and between characters which I found to be confusing in places.

I read this years and years ago. I loved the book and the movie both now but I remember not liking the movie as much as the book when it first came out. Now that so much time has passed and I don't remember as many details about the book I appreciate the movie more.

Whenever I see that a movie was based on a novel, I have to go read the novel since the book is almost always better than the movie. In the case of Fried Green Tomatoes, I'd have to say that I loved both!
