What Members Thought

That was a bit of a shocker. I did think this was well written and didn't understand a lot of the poor marks in reviews. I've been reading Anita Shreve for years now, on and off, and I enjoy her writing. Some people might say it's a bit melancholy, but that's ok for me.
This book didn't jump at me as some of hers did, still though, it has some lovely writing.
I liked that she wrote the story "backwards", shows that she was well capable of trying different ways to write.
I think some of her other work is better, for example, The Weight of Water; but this is still a good book. ...more

I expected more from this author, who had success writing The Pilot's Wife. The two main characters, who were once teenage lovers, meet again when they're adults. The story is boring and this book is not worth reading.

I couldn't sympathize with the characters; the story was confusing much of the time. I was going to go with a 2 but changed it as I thought about how the book ended.
