Fun and very satisfying. The bad guys are foiled, the good guys pull off great tricks and come out ahead, etc. The second book syndrome is pretty minor here; there's stuff happening and it feels like the plot is being moved along. There's a good ending while still leaving plenty of room for the final book to wrap it all up. Like the first one, the story's not super complex. Clever writing and a good set of characters makes for a very pleasant read.

The Consuming Fire is the second book in the Interdependency Trilogy. The books are easy fast reads set in a time where humans inhabit a variety of planets that depend on each other for survival. However soon the way that they travel through space will disappear and they will all be on their own. The new Emperox must work fast to convince others of their impending troubles while maneuvering the cutthroat politics of the empire.
