“Every time the day begins, Aiden wakes up in a different body, and each body he inhabits is a guest of the masquerade. The only way he can escape this loop is solve the murder, but if he can’t do it in 8 days, he has to start the loop over again, losing the memories of everything he’s learnt previously.”

This is a difficult book to review without giving too much away. It wasn't what I expected from the blurb, but is much more. The writing struck me as rather quaint at first, but it suits the setting of the big old house and grounds where the story unfolds. I had trouble keeping up with who the main character was today and what was going on quite frequently, although which day it is appears at the beginning of each chapter. Who is an enemy and who an ally on any given day- because this changes, c

I'll start by saying this is a very unique book. It's a mystery novel with shades of Groundhog Day and Quantum Leap. As the book jacket states Aiden Bishop wakes up in the body of 8 different houseguests at Blackheath Manor while reliving the same day. If he doesn't solve the murder of Evelyn Hardcastle by the end of day 8 the cycle starts again with Aiden's mind wiped clean except for one word. This book must have been so complicated to write. I really liked this book. It was a mixture of Agatha Christie and Quantum Leap. It had an original premise. It was more of a big idea book than a character book, but that is OK because I like big idea books. I like it when authors put their characters in interesting situations and see how they react. The mystery itself was interesting - not too easy to figure out, but not out of left field when the answer is revealed. I was left wanting to know more about the world that this situation would take

This book starts out so slowly, that I almost gave up on it. But it builds and I didn't see all of the twists coming.
Nutshell: Our narrator wakes up in an unfamiliar body with no real memories except a name. We learn that he's trapped in an loop in which the day repeats itself and his challenge is to solve a murder. Though the day repeats, he inhabits a different body for eight days and has to leverage the talents (or disadvantages) of each of his "hosts."
