Enjoyed.
A book of memories. A woman reminisces on her upbringing spent in Tennessee & Brooklyn. The writing has a dreamy atmospheric flow. I did feel some parts where stronger than others. I especially love how the reader could get a feel of Brooklyn. I feel anybody growing up in the inner-city can relate to many things in this novel. I heard some of it in audio. I would definitely recommend listening to it on audio.

I thought the realities that these girls faced at a young age were hard to listen to but I thought that the author gave a very accurate view of how things were. It was sad but at the same time if was heart warming to see how even though their circumstances weren't all that great they had this childhood which they would have considered to be great. The problems didn't come until adolescence hit. And watching the changes in the girls and their friendships was hard.

As always, Robin Miles does an excellent job as narrator. This is a book that I wish the author had read herself, but Miles handles it beautifully and makes it easy to connect with these fragmented memories and vignettes.
I think I'd like this more if I hadn't just finished On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous which is also a prose poetry reflection on coming of age, but worked out to be much more powerful than Another Brooklyn. This book felt like weak tea to OEWBG's strong coffee.

Others have described this novel as poetry and I agree. The story is written from the perspective of a young girl who, with her father and brother have just moved away from her mother to live in Brooklyn in the 1970s. She lets the reader see the story as it unfolds, through the narrator's eyes. I think she found a smart balance between introspection and plot. The reader can watch the narrator grow and change, face problems and learn difficult truths about her life. In this way, the narrator ulti

3 1/2 stars. As always, Jacqueline Woodson's writing is beautiful. It's about friendship and memory. I didn't always fully understand the time frame or exactly what was happening to the characters. It's the story of a young girl but I wouldn't recommend to young teens.
