I decided to read this book because it is on the best seller list and there are about 350 people who have reserved the book on line at the library. I am STILL baffled as to how many people have read and want to read this book. The book is about the Revolutionary war in the year 1776. It is well written. I feel like I missed a lot of school. Although I am history major , I concentrated on European and Middle East History. This one book got me completely caught up on a crucial part of American history in a way my high school and college texts never did.

This was an extremely informative and interesting account of the year 1776. My knowledge of the Revolutionary War is unfortunately too little and this book really helped bring some of it to life. McCullough writes in a way that is unbiased to either side; descriptions of key players seem factual and he makes sure to include both the attributes and flaws of the leading characters on both sides.
