The novel begins quite promisingly as I do love the prose. It is poetic and just beautiful in description of setting and especially, of feelings. I loved how easily I became invested in each new character arc, and I enjoyed the stories networked through history. I was so frustrated by the gaps left in the end, though! Maybe the holes are supposed to be a commentary on how history can only be pieced together by the artifacts and witnesses that remain.

3 1/2 stars. Multiple voices and time periods jumping around was confusing for this reader. There is a good story here but it's about 100 pages too long.
