All hail the mighty glow cloud!! This audiobook was perfect. I haven't even listened to the podcast yet! I'll probably read this book and listen to the audiobook again in the future. The narrator was amazing. The short part where the glow cloud speaks is ACTUALLY scary, even after replaying it 10 more times!

I did not read the podcast. I didn't know there was a podcast. Thought the book was really strange. The world is like our world but a few things that are off like the library is a scary place to go. Books are not encouraged. The world is technologically like ours. They have computers and cell phones. In fact you are required to carry a cell phone.

Welcome to Night Vale is a novel based on an apparently popular podcast. I had not heard of the podcast before reading this book, so I am reviewing it as a Night Vale newbie. I did not feel that not having experienced the podcast mattered to the novel (although I am sure there were plenty of allusions to things in the podcast that I missed).

Night Vale is a town where just about anything can happen. It is a magical town that simply people do not leave or cannot leave. There are strange rules there. This is based on a podcast that I already enjoyed so I was aware of the strangeness of the stories. A mystery man shows up and gives people a piece of paper with the name of "King City " on it. Two main people Jackie and Diane try to figure out what it means and then try to get out of Night Vale to go to King City.

I'm a huge fan of the podcast. It's comforting in all of it's weirdness absurdity. It was fun to change things up and dive deeper into some of the characters in Night Vale. But to be honest I was a little lost on the plot until about 250 pages in. It all comes together and ends beautifully.

Quirky and had some good/funny ideas, but not being familiar with the podcast, it didn't work as a stand-alone novel for me.
