This was the perfect time in my life to read this book. Betta's beloved husband dies. She's still youngish, in her 50s. She and her husband had each other and had forsook all others. Betta sells her Boston home and moves to the Midwest. She reunites with her college besties and makes friends in her new home. I found the grieving and the realness of Betta had so much depth. With Betta we learn about turning tragedy to joy.

What a sweet book, and I use the word "sweet" on purpose. It is a tender and rather light story of a woman dealing with the grief of losing her husband and trying to move on with her life. Berg created really enduring characters that help her with the challenge of moving on. For a book on grief, I found it more hopeful than depressing and it had a great message for all those who have lost someone they loved.

there's something about berg's books that i just adore. maybe because all of her characters are very likeable, and in other words, just like US.
i love this novel, i like how berg wrote in the fictional store (the little pleasures, very aptly named) and i like the characters very much. i finished this book in one night.
