Very cute and funny; think I would have loved this as a kid.

A fun parody of fairy tale fantasy, which feels similar in tone to Ella Enchanted, though the characters and plot are hugely different. In this one, Princess Cimorene is the youngest of seven girls and the black sheep of the family. She has no interest whatsoever in being like her sisters, and in fact wishes to do everything that they don't do...primarily this means that she rejects everything "ladylike" and instead pushes to do things that "just aren't done!" Princess Cimorene thinks that being a proper princess is boring. She would rather learn latin, fencing, and magic than etiquette and protocol. When her parents arrange for her to marry the Prince in a neighboring kindgom, Cimorene runs away rather than accepting her fate. She volunteers to be a dragon's princess and begins a life on her own terms, if only those pesky knights would stop trying to rescue her.

I listened to the entirety of this short book while driving back and forth across Missouri for work. The author did a nice job and the idea of the story was cute: a princess who volunteers to become a dragon's princess rather than one who is carried off and held captive by a dragon. The volunteer princess must thus turn away prince suitors who come to rescue her and becomes involved in dragon politics and intrigue. Light and easy fantasy, and perfectly entertaining for a long boring drive.

Great quick read! I don't normally read this genre but was reading ahead of my daughter. Looking forward to reading the next one!

Great book for kids that reminds them that learning is useful and there's no need to just be a boring princess.
