What Members Thought
This story primarily follows the story of Little Nell and her grandfather as they escape London and head west for a more peaceful way of life, away from the temptations of the Big Smoke. Dickens has an obvious love for little Nell but it was not one I could share as I found her a bit weak and spineless as heroines go, I would have liked to see her stand up for herself and her family a bit more and confront her grandfather over his vices that kept them living the poor life.

This is a novel of extremes, greed and hostility, poverty and aceeptance. Its characters well defined but not always likeable. Written in his inimical style it is worth the long read
