Oh how I adored thee...
This was beautiful, and seductive.
A caress, a whisper.

Adeline LaRue does not want this life that is laid out for her, she turns down proposal after proposal, until her parents arrange marriage with Roger. She doesn't want to marry and lose herself. She wants to be free, to live.
So she prays, to the old gods, the new God does nothing. Day in day out she prays, giving all she has yet none answer.
And time is running out.
Never pray to the gods that answer after dark

I snagged this book from my mother's bookshelves, though I'm not sure whether she had actually read it. I liked the take on a deal with a devil and overall found the story clever and well-managed. Endings are hard and this book had a teensy bit of trouble figuring out where to stop, but overall I liked the way it closed.

I liked this, especially the premise of it, but I did not love it like a lot of my friends. I was confused by the main character. She seemed to be very into traveling and experiencing life as a young child, open to different cultures and religions, but after she makes the deal, she is pretty boring for 300 years. Also, why did she stay in such Western cultures? The entire world is hers! She honestly didn't do much, and the parts of history covered were surprisingly dull....hanging out in Paris s

When I started this book I was worried it would pale in comparison to Pete Hamil’s Forever, one of my top 10 favorite books. It seemed to take on a similar premise but focus on sex and days instead of the changes in the world throughout the course of time.
As the story developed, it became clear that the books were different and I could stop comparing the two. This book is beautiful and I was able to separate the books in my mind. I usually wait a while before I add things to my all time favorite ...more

Don't pray to the Old Gods after dark. A warning that Addie didn't heed (I don't think that's a spoiler), and set herself on a path she hadn't anticipated. This book took a little while to get going, then became really interesting, and finished a little disappointingly, I thought. But the bit in the middle is worth reading it for, and what an interesting premise to play with- Addie learns creative ways around her dilemma.

This book is like poetry, at times you get tired and you give up but somehow it is still easy to pick it up.
The author really has a way of weaving words into sentences that yoi can almost feel when you read. It is one of those books that has so much to tell . I can write a review and I would still come back to edit it. It is a story that grows and changes meaning like the leaves of a tree chnages color with time.
Maybe if I have slept on this long enough I will feel like writing some notes but ...more
