I liked this book quite a bit more than I liked the first book in the series. The first book felt like a creative writing exercise where a box of photos was used to drive the stories. Here, the narrative was driving and the photos felt selected to accompany it rather than the other way around. (Note: the author confirms that this is true in an interview with him that I read.)

So, I did the audiobook of the first Miss Peregrine's book but bought the second one. Boy, I had no idea what I was missing. I'm now going to go back and buy the first book just so I can look at the pictures.
