It is hard to imagine that a book such as this could have been written in England in 1941 when Britain was being bombed and WWII raged in Europe. Were women in London devouring this book and passing it around while waiting for the next siren alerting them to race to the bomb shelter? Daphne Du Maurier is juts suck a skilled author. This book is storytelling at its best. Tension that is tangible, emotions that jump off the page. Never mind how old it is, it transcends time
