I’ve enjoyed this series a lot: the mix of humor, action and mythology are lots of fun plus I also prefer men as main characters, especially if those books are told in the 1st person and I have to live in their heads. But something was missing in this book. I think we have reached a point where we need to know more about Atticus and I don’t see that coming. I’m not sure if this is intentional or if the author just hasn’t developed Atticus' past properly. This is a man who has lived ...more

While I really did enjoy this installment of the Iron Druid Chronicles, I was left unsatisfied at the end. I was so sad. :( I don't want to think about the characters that were lost in this story, it really cast a shadow for me over the whole book. It's supposed to be fantasy, so why can't everyone be ok?
That being said, this book had some memorable moments that I will never forget! Can you imagine doing a shot with Jesus! LOL, that was just hilarious. Loved that.

I have to admit that I didn't like this one as much as the first two in the series. It was a bit darker but that wasn't what bothered me. In the first two books I loved Atticus, he was a smartass firmly rooted in the present but he also had enough gravitas to make me believe he was 1000 years old. In this book, he comes off more as a frat boy. He admits right in the beginning that he sometimes gets a case of "The Smug". I think he had it throughout the whole book. It made him less likable. I love this series and enjoyed this book; although, it wasn't quite as good as the previous two books. I didn't like the overall plot - "Let's all go kill Thor." - but the characters and writing made up for it, somewhat. It seemed like an action taken in order to build the series, a bridge into whatever comes next...and I very much look forward to whatever comes next!

I did not like this book as much as the first two. There was altogether too much violence, death and sadness. Everything was no-win. Not enough Oberon, not enough fluff, not enough humour. The ending drew me in though. I want to know what will happen next, where will Atticus go, what happened to the widow, Leif, the pack, everything.
