How decidedly disturbing. Just when you think it's going to be a normal dinner date between siblings, things turn so very weird. Paul changes as the dinner progresses. You learn more about what makes him tick, what extremes he will go to that will ensure his child will grow up strong and free. This book should be filed on the same shelf with We Need to Talk About Kevin, Defending Jacob, and maybe also with The Wasp Factory and Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. In other words, books with very disturbing, grim themes and unlikeable characters from whom it's hard to look away.

I've just finished this. What a hateful and self-serving family under their veneer of happiness and ordinariness! At the very least sociopathic, and I think that the book blurb that says "how far would you go to protect your family" is misleading. Their troubles go far deeper than that! I was bothered that Paul has an inheritable psychiatric diagnosis which could be made by amniocentesis. What??? I really enjoyed this book as it started out, but turned surprisingly violent which made me feel a little less love.

What did I just read??! I didn't expect the narrator to be like ~that. Interesting story.
