Like many others I read this book several years after seeing the movie. I was impressed at just how closely the movie did follow the book, there was little to no variation from one to the other. Having seen the movie I obviously knew the ending but the book was still enjoyable. Palahniuk's writing is darkly funny and really smart.

Reading Palahniuk is an experience. You dive into his novels expecting nothing and everything all at once. Whatever you initially think, you won't be thinking by the end. Well, this was just as bad as American Psycho! Okay, maybe not as gory and sickening in graphic descriptions but it's just as violent (if you're bored, go read a book or something, people!) and the ending just as stupid. Coming off the heels of reading Cat's Cradle, a sarcastic nihilist text. I proceeded to read fight club, one which is actively misanthropic in tone. It goes beyond saying that nothing in this world matters, it goes forth and states that human beings are shit. I need to choose happier books.
