I have to admit that before I started reading If I Stay, I was a bit skeptical about this book's popularity. I had read Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin a couple of years ago, and I thought it was probably the definitive book about a dying/dead teenage girl. Well, while Zevin's novel is still a favorite, I've made room for If I Stay on the favorite shelf as well. I'm always amazed when someone can take a period of 24 hours, blend it with just the apposite amount of the past, and make a riveting stor ...more

This book made me cry, but nonetheless disappointed me. The idea is a great premise--a girl in a coma after a motor vehicle accident that killed the rest of her family and her consciousness/soul is thinking over whether to go on living. But the all-in-the-head consciousness never quite reached true emotion for me. There was very little risk taking or vulnerability with the character. Her friendships and her romance were all a bit too neat and tidily perfect. Her dead parents were just the cooles ...more

a very good book involving the mind, the body and especially the soul. it makes you consider your own life-or-death experiences firsthand and the decisions you would take if you were to be in Mia´s shoes. ALMOST made me cry, so be prepared for a heartwrenching but memorable story.

This review is for the audiobook. I didn't know the premise of the book when I started, the cover attracted me, so I was allowed the surprise when it unfolded. I think I would have liked it more if the characters hadn't been so cardboard. They never became real to me. I rated it 4 stars for the fact that the story moved well and the reader did a good job, but now I'm leaning more toward 3 stars because I just didn't feel anything. The most memorable moment in the book for me is when Mia's boyfri ...more

What a wonderful story! It is heartbreaking and sweet.... It is just a... wow.
I became so in love with Mia and her family. I found that it characters reactions felt real and her love story with Adam was also very genuine. Not too adult for their age, even though they were so in love. Like her mother said (in so many words)... It can be very inconvenient to fall in love at their age, especially when it is real.
I am excited to check out the movie and then next book in the series.
