What Members Thought

I have to admit that before I started reading If I Stay, I was a bit skeptical about this book's popularity. I had read Elsewhere by Gabrielle Zevin a couple of years ago, and I thought it was probably the definitive book about a dying/dead teenage girl. Well, while Zevin's novel is still a favorite, I've made room for If I Stay on the favorite shelf as well. I'm always amazed when someone can take a period of 24 hours, blend it with just the apposite amount of the past, and make a riveting stor

This book made me cry, but nonetheless disappointed me. The idea is a great premise--a girl in a coma after a motor vehicle accident that killed the rest of her family and her consciousness/soul is thinking over whether to go on living. What a wonderful story! It is heartbreaking and sweet.... It is just a... wow.
I became so in love with Mia and her family. I found that it characters reactions felt real and her love story with Adam was also very genuine. Not too adult for their age, even though they were so in love. Like her mother said (in so many words)... It can be very inconvenient to fall in love at their age, especially when it is real.
I am excited to check out the movie and then next book in the series.

Pretty powerful book. It really made me think. Can't wait for the next one.
