I think, by book 4 of this series, Ian Rankin has finally got into his stride. This story, about an MP who finds himself in a lot of trouble after being caught in a midnight police raid on a brothel in Edinburgh, flows beautifully. Rebus himself is developing as a character - his edges have been smoothed - and overall the book was a good, page-turning read.
