I loved this book and I love the way Grahame-Smith combines historical fact with vampire fiction utterly seamlessly creating a highly 'plausible' and very believable version of Abraham Lincoln's life and death. The writing is vivid and descriptive and takes the reader into the heart of the action and into the mind of one of America's greatest President's as he tackles the forces of Slavery and the Undead all in one foul swoop. A brilliant read that is a vast relief from the recent trend of soppy

Abraham Lincoln is one of my personal heroes. I enjoy reading about his life and times, the Civil War and the biographies or diaries of people who lived through it.
I also enjoy dark urban fantasy; urban romance just pisses me off.
I should like this, right? Right?
Actually, I am pretty ambivalent about it. I enjoyed the story. It could have been any main character and the story of how vampires influenced the Civil War could have been an interesting premise. The life of the vampire hunter during t ...more

What a pleasant surprise this book was. Grahame-Smith certainly shows his writing talent by successfully combining historical events and the quirky absurd. He fairly charmed the enjoyment right out of me. Without diminishing the dignity of a great historical figure, the story presents a whimsical version of Lincoln in the real battle of his life, that of ridding the country of the evil vampires that prey on children and the shackled population of the South called slaves. Lincoln belief in equali

I loved Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. I thought it was just absolutely hilarious [Please note that I adore P&P]. Hence, I expected the same level of hilarity with this novel. Unfortunately, it’s nothing of the sort. Or at least, not to me… I wonder though whether this has to do with the fact that I’m Australian. I mean in the sense that I know very little of the American history and do not revere Abraham Lincoln as most Americans would. Nevertheless, it was still an entertaining read for me.

This was an interesting twist on your typical vampire tale. I only wish I knew more about Abraham Lincoln to know how close they stuck to his actual life experiences. Maybe this will be a reason for me to want to learn a little more about the history of American Presidents.
