Adelia Aguilar is commissioned by King Henry II to determine if the bones found in Glastonbury Abbey graveyard are King Arthur and Queen Guinevere. Since King Henry II is having particular trouble with Wales where the legend is strong, he is hoping that Adelia will be able to say that Arthur and Geneviere are dead, since he hopes that will take the strength out of the rebellion.

The historical background is fascinating despite one or two glaring inconsistencies (that are ultimately explained in the author's note), but the investigation into the corpses believed to be those of Arthur and Guinevere is not as engrossing as in the previous books.

I love this series with Adelia Aguilar set in early 12th century England with Henry II being involved, too. In this 3rd book, Henry II sends Adelia to Glastonbury to determine if skeletons uncovered are those of King Arthur and Guinevere. Of course, the Bishop of St. Albans, Rowley, is once again in Adelia's life, which always provides for some interesting events. The author, Ariana Franklin, is one of my favorite historical fiction/mystery writers. ...more

Adelia Aguilar is a physician in the middle ages, who Henry II uses for his forensic pathologist.
Her current task is to prove if bones found belong to Arthur.
Intriguing read.

I read this one first and then went back to the first one. In my case it was a good think, because I did not her first one, Mistress of the Art of Death so would not have read farther. If this is the case with you give this one a chance.
