I've started The Night Circus many, many times but I had problems sticking with it, mostly because I had the audiobook version narrated by Jim Dale, which made me think of Harry Potter. The impression that I was listening to Harry Potter never went away completely (not only because of the narration but because of the descriptions of the Circus, which reminded me a lot of the Potter world) but at least it faded enough that I was able to enjoy the book.

The narration by Jim Dale for the unabridged audio version was excellent. He managed to convey the mystery and fantasy of the tents beautifully.
The book has a wonderful premise--a fantastical circus that is magical or perhaps just superbly managed illusions that appears in seemingly random locations and is only open at night. Behind the scenes, a host of characters add layers of mystery. The descriptions of the different tents at the circus was clever and wondrous. Unfortunately, the author coul ...more

Fantastic descriptive narrative, but the story kind of leaves you wanting more more in a sense that it lacks something... It feels a little unfinished. Still, it is worth reading just for the world building. The atmosphere and the details are amazing. Even at points when I don't care about the plot points, I never wanted to leave the travelling circus.

after reading this book i don't trust my self to write a good review. i was so excited about getting this book but i read 6 books while i was reading this book. this book was boring and hard to finish exactly opposite of what i expected.
i hate giving it such a low rating. I expected more from this book and it was such a disappointment.

This is *exactly* what I had hoped for when I picked up Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. The magic, the world, the characters, were all so beautiful-- I absolutely loved the way the story of Bailey and the twins interwove with Celia and Marco, and ultimately all came together at the end. I totally get why everyone lost their shit over this book when it was first published; it's wonderful.

Wow. It has been a long time since I have felt so enamored by a book. I am still smiling, despite being a little bit sad that it is over. What a beautiful story! It sounds corny, but I feel younger for having read this.

I think I'll give it some time and go back and read this one instead of listening. I think it lost some magic in the audiobook.

I'm not sure I would have kept up with this one if it wasn't an audiobook, but I'm really glad I did.
