I just don't know how to write this review. I thought it was an OK book and I did like the premise of the book. I did have some problems with it though.
One of my biggest problems was that there were little inconsistencies throughout the book. I know, the purpose was to show that Towner was an unreliable narrator. She told me that right off the bat. Yet, it just bothered me, rather than intrigued me.

Towner Whitney returns to Salem when he aunt disappears and the disappearance end sup tying into events from Towners childhood. Large portions of the story just dragged for me and the "twist" at the end of the book came out of left field and was pretty unbelievable to me.

I almost gave up on this book a couple of times but after reading the reviews here saying that the ending was worth reading, I persevered until the very end. I thought the lace reading part of the book had nothing at all to do with the story which is really about Towner/Sophya's fucked-up adolescence, etc. And the ending was just haphazardly written in a chapter to just finish of the story basically. Read if you have nothing else to do because the story is quite slow...

Not quite what I was expecting but I really enjoyed this one. It made me want to go to Salem again.

If you like "The thirteenth tale", you'll like this one too. But I think "The tirtheenth tale" have a better ending.
