What Members Thought

What do I say about a book that kept me up until 3 in the morning? Well, it was hot, definitely hot! I'm wondering if it doesn't deserve a 5 star rating just on the addictive aspect of it. After all, I believe that a 5 rating indicates its place in its genre as much as anything. But, for now, it will remain a 4, with a huge leaning to 4 1/2. Christian and Ana sizzle off the page. While some readers may be uncomfortable with Christian's predilection for BDSM, it certainly offers some interesting

This is going to be a DNF book for me.
I can't stand the heroine's naivety and Christian Grey gives me the creeps. He is like those messed up clueless boys who thought they are "Doms" when they have no clue how to treat a sub.

Clumsy virgin who has never owned a computer or smartphone meets fabulously wealthy and incredibly handsome CEO. So far, so Cinderella, but wait: he's dangerous. Yawn,- make that so Twilight. But wait again- he really means it about the dangerous part, and once she's fallen (literally) into his office and they discover that they have (of course!) amazing chemistry, she spends the rest of the book deciding whether chemistry is enough for her to put up with this interfering control freak who is se

At first, I absolutely hated this book. I thought the writing was horrible and the characters made me ill. Ana had no backbone, and Christian was a demanding prick. I wasn't sure I was going to even be able to finish this, or continue past 25%. But then something happened. Somewhere along the reading road, I became slightly addicted. I found I needed to know what happened next. It was somewhat akin to driving by a car accident, or watching a James Dean movie: I had to watch/read.

I picked this book up because I was curious regarding the various points of view on this book. I had heard comments from it was so steamy and hot I had to excuse myself to its just porn on paper. I actually found I was more taken in by the story. I was fascinated with how Christian became the way he did and what happened in the first four years before he was adopted. I’m still hanging as the author lets bits and pieces slip throughout the story.

I think this book made me cringe more than Twilight :/ Stating the obvious: it started as fanfiction, so it obviously reads as fanfiction. The author feels the need to describe every little pointless detail - like the things Ana eats, what time she wakes up, repetitive thoughts, feelings and phrases… because let's be honest, she doesn't know what else to write to build her word count. Can you imagine what she wrote at the end of every chapter? "1000 likes and I'll write a 5000 word chapter next

Before reading this book, I always had the opinion that this book must be one of the most overhyped ones out there (it started as a fanfiction of the most overhyped piece of crap, so it stands). After reading it, I'm justly convinced that it is.
This book definitely feels like a fanfiction, and not in a good way. I enjoyed fanfiction couple of years ago when I was in my fandom years, but I expected a published book to be somewhat more polished. More... edited. This book just feels... lacking sub ...more

And my very small inner goddess sways in a gentle victorious samba....really?? Oh Jeesh
-#1 of the Fifty Shades Series-I couldn’t imagine what all the hype was about when it came to this book. Now, I know. As far as a literary work, this isn’t it. That’s OK though. Some of the best reads have no literary value what so ever. The story is about Ana. She is filling in for her roommate, who is sick with the flu, and goes to Grey Industries to interview the owner, Christian Gray. He is young, classy ...more

I struggle to know what to say about this book. I hate in the fact of how it portrays women. I hate in that it is showing that a woman should look past MANY flaws just because he has manners and tons of money. I feel like it's trying to "put women in their place". I hate that!
I gave up and wanted to punch Grey a third through the book. I was so mad and upset that people were actually reading and loving someone like Grey and how he treats women so disrespectfully. So I put the book down for seve ...more

I don't entirely know what to say about this book. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. It started off as a fast and easy read, but about halfway through the book, I got bored with all of the sex scenes. The book felt very repetitious. Also the main characters were not very likeable. I did not see the appeal of Christian (who was supposed to be irresistible). As for Anastasia, her emotional ping pong match with herself got tiresome rather quickly. This book has become famous for being shock

I don't even know what to say about this book, certainly nothing that hasn't been said before. The writing left a lot to be desired, and at times I was rolling my eyes as much as the characters, but the woman does knows how to write a sex scene.

2 stars is probably more accurate but the fact that I've decided to read the next one made me decide to bump this up to 3.
Maybe I would have liked this more if I read this when I first heard about it a few months ago but I don't know. It's really not well written and the Twilight influences were ridiculous but of course it sucked me in by the end. ...more

For all the fuss I've heard about this book I expected a lot more of it. It is fun romp for the average reader, it's not the hardcore story I've heard that it was. Overall I liked the story, it just didn't reach the levels of the hype. I'm unsure how they are going to make this a movie - not sure how it will play on screen.

I knew this is going to be bad but I didn't trust it to be THAT bad. Five pages on & I gave up... I had a peek at the "naughty, sexy" bits but even that didn't pike my interest.
