This was a short quick read. The beginning seemed really promising and there is potential for a good series but the more I think about the book, the less I like it. Rylee is a tracker, meaning she has the ability to find the location of people and she tracks down lost kids who cannot be found by law enforcement. She is a typical UF heroine, meaning she kicks butt on a daily basis, wears leather, and has a snarky attitude to match. Somewhere down the road of finding the latest lost kid, she semi- This was a short quick read. The beginning seemed really promising and there is potential for a good series but the more I think about the book, the less I like it. Rylee is a tracker, meaning she has the ability to find the location of people and she tracks down lost kids who cannot be found by law enforcement. She is a typical UF heroine, meaning she kicks butt on a daily basis, wears leather, and has a snarky attitude to match. Somewhere down the road of finding the latest lost kid, she semi-teams up with the cop who has been trying to pin a murder on her for the last 10 years and we go from hate to lust in 2.4 seconds.

I must be in a ranty mood because this next part gets long...

Due to the length of the book and an everything but the kitchen sink type of story, there isn't a lot of background or world building to explain the presence of different species or their actions. For example, the world is unaware of supernaturals but the werewolves are human-wolf hybrids who are mostly unable to shift between human and wolf form, there are cow-sized harpies flying about, and herds of unicorns in their midst. How is that possible? There are too many supernaturals showing up at once with little explanation.
My other issue is the inconsistencies in the story. Rylee has an "immunity" to most magic, except when it is beneficial to the story for her to not be immune. There are some "mostly" definitive rules with exceptions at convenient times.
Her pet werewolf is kinda stupid and annoying and I think he's supposed to be comedic relief (I've seen some simple thinking side kicks done well e.g. The Knife of Never Letting Go) but this one didn't work for me. While I can appreciate that she is trying a twist on the genre, the werewolves either needed to be a bigger part of the story/world building or left mostly out of the plot until a later time.
