I loved this book. A hell of a lot more than I expected to if I'm honest. I had read Siege and Storm a few years ago but didn't think much of it but this blew me away. The characters are all interesting and varied and the storyline was fun and action packed and I was surprised a few times. The cliffhanger ending is a bugger though. I've known of this book for years, and I've been told so often that this book was my thing, and people were so right!!! This is excellent, I was thinking a high four stars while I read it, and then the ending truly delivered and this moved up to 5 stars!!!

Firstly, I LOVE the structure of this book!!! The book starts media res, which is one of my favorite techniques, you're literally thrown into the middle of the story, you're thrown into the action (to not even speak that you start, and end, wit I've known of this book for years, and I've been told so often that this book was my thing, and people were so right!!! This is excellent, I was thinking a high four stars while I read it, and then the ending truly delivered and this moved up to 5 stars!!!

Firstly, I LOVE the structure of this book!!! The book starts media res, which is one of my favorite techniques, you're literally thrown into the middle of the story, you're thrown into the action (to not even speak that you start, and end, with outside povs, giving you a completely different perspective of things).

Secondly, and still on structure, I definitely prefer multiple povs and third person, and here you're truly allowed to get to know each of these characters, through memories and flashbacks, you now their past and where they come from!!!

Considering this, the characters are the best part of this book, each of them completely unique!!! Nina was my favorite going in (from the first season of Shadow and Bone) and she delivers here, she has such a fun personality, she's so strong but I also love how rash she is... and then I love the emotional struggles with characters like Matthias and Inej - the culture and religion aspect to both of them, and to fit their actions... Kaz is so good and awful, I love how cruel he is, and how he's not apologizing for it, but also the way he loves and cares for people... Wylan and Jesper were a bit less developed I feel, hopefully the sequel fixes that, I think the youthful sense to Wylan made me a bit more enjoyable to read (and I'll get back to Jesper...)
I know I was talking about them individually, but also the big strength in this book is how they work together and balance each other... you have all these different dynamics and relationships, different partnerships, and you have this caring love between them growing so much, being able to read each other... you build to a point, you know this people are going to hell for each other...

Now finally, the finale and why this was brought up to five stars!!! The first thing was the ending showed me what I needed from Jesper, a bit of deepness was added there, and I needed that... and then it's just good - the pacing was great (and I didn't think it would be when I saw how few pages I had left), it leaves you a cliffhanger, but it's still so much about character work and who these people are!!!!

Truly the characters are really what makes this book so good - the plot wasn't super grabbing for me, but I also know I prefer heist stories in movies - and I really want to continue to get to know this people, and I really need to order Crooked Kingdom soon!!!

Oh.my.god. I'm in love! I think Six of Crows is going to be my favourite book of the year and we are only in January!

The world building, the plot, the characters. There was not one character I hated! I loved them all. This book was just damn right perfect! I'm lost for words.

For most of the book I was going back and forth between 4 and 4.5 stars. Towards the last part of the book I was leaning towards 4.5 stars but by the end of the book I knew it deserved nothing less than 5 stars!!!

I DNFed this book back in January, then after watching Shadow & Bone and falling in love with the characters, I decided to pick it up again. Now somehow it's one of the best books I have read this year?

I think maybe I was just overwhelmed by how many characters, plot points and places we were introduced to at the start of the book, and watching the show helped me to sort through all of this and enabled me to get sucked into the story at last (instead of spending time figuring out who was who and ...more

First, let's address the obvious: This book is G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S. This special edition is just eye-popping gorgeous, the metallic cover, the maps, the illustrations...*swoon*

Second, and content wise, this was pretty amazing. It did take me a minute longer than it should have to both get into the story and *get* the story as -I now realise- I made the mistake of not reading the Grisha trilogy first, so there was A LOT of stuff I had to catch up on and kind of assume? Really enjoyed this book. Took me a while to get into it because I wasn't familiar with the Grisha magic system at first, but as the plot picked up and we learned more about the characters, I started to enjoy it.
