It is a good book but definitely not one of the best YA books. There is lot going on in Ari's world but everything is not explained and connected really well. For example, his father's secrets were highlighted in whole book but were kind of summarised in a chapter at end of the book to give a closure.

So where does one even start? The title. It is so misleading. It is a coming of age story set in the 80s. Why though?I don’t understand why the 80s was significant? The characters are totally flat. Every single one of them. I did not find anyone deep enough. I can’t remember anything specific about anyone and I just finished reading this book. There is so much telling and no showing. Everything about this book is contrite. It does not tug at the heart strings. It is trying very hard and failing
