An interesting read, for sure. Will probably read more in the series! I really like medieval fiction, and pair it with mystery? Yurp. The only thing that I don't think really worked here were the romantic elements. Didn't expect instalove in my gnarly medieval serial killer mystery. (Also didn't expect a courtroom scene! With a surprisingly heroic King Henry II!)

Overall, this is a very good mystery. The characters are well drawn, the amount of historical detail in the novel is impressive, though Franklin doesn't whack you over the head with "look at how much I know" syndrome.

An interesting historical fiction tale set in 11th century England during the reign of Henry II. It took a bit to warm up to Adelia, but once arrived in Cambridge I was intrigued to know if she would unravel the murders. I know it was another time, but the opposites attract love story seemed too thin for my liking. Up for reading another tale as I enjoyed the secondary characters and setting.
