I liked it… But… at times I felt like I was being given a history lesson and not reading fiction. I was in it for entertainment not education. I appreciate Kostova’s research and hard work (it shows), but it didn’t wholly appeal to me.
I don’t understand why the daughter’s name isn’t used by the characters (but about 500 pages in we find that she was named for her maternal grandmother)? The only other book I’ve ever seen that used in is Rebecca and that was to make the protagonist seem less than ...more

I really liked this book. It was kind of like The Divinci Code only you actually had to use some cognitive ability instead of just running on adrenaline from chapter to chapter. My only problem with it was the ending. I felt that she went on for 600 pages and then summed it up in a couple of paragraphs. I needed more closure than she gave, I was left wondering what happened to certain characters. With that said I would definitely read more of her books, when they come out.

Love it!!! This is one of my favorite books! This is a great story with tons of history, mystery and legend (vampires). A splash of romance rounds out the story, and it's hard for me to put it down. Despite the length of the book (600 pages or so) I've read it about once a year since it came out, usually in October when the combination of weather and ambiance is just right for a creepy thrill.
