5/23/2011: This is a great novel and I hated it. It achieves its aim brilliantly--which is (I think) to make me feel miserable, guilty, and queasy, all through (and despite?) the blithely charming tone of the narrator. Changez (note the name) is an articulate and intelligent young Pakistani man, and the novel is his tale of his metamorphosis from a Pakistani trying to live the American dream to a "reluctant fundamentalist".
