First Thoughts: Buchi always gets me with showing spousal abuse in its many forms. She also does a good job of infusing her books with cultural knowledge in a natural way without resorting to peddling for the white gaze.

Final Thoughts: She did again! Thankfully, Kehinde has a much happier ending than Emecheta’s other protagonist.
