The story revolves around these three individuals who have been raised by guardians to eventually be donations. Terms and places are used as if the reader would naturally know what they are and mean and, given the very nurtured and sheltered upbringing of these individuals, it would seem that they're world is the only world and one in which we should be familiar. But we're not because coming face to face with such a perversion of science is frightening and embarasssing and sad. Interesting read.

I'm still speechless after finishing this book. It's a very different world in the novel - in fact, it's very similar to The Handmaiden's Tale - where children are only brought into the world in order to be "donors" and/or "carers." It's a bit alternate-universe, but it's done so subtlely that you couldn't tell until you were well into the book.

Ishiguro chose a rare yet sensitive theme for this novel. But, still. It's brilliant! People, even though their birth are being genetically-engineered, they are still people anyway. They have feeling.
