I wasn’t sure about this book and have still not made up my mind.
There were parts where I laughed out loud, parts that were brutally adult and other parts I thought darn right silly.

I was never taking in by the ‘deception’ though that didn’t bother me and unlike others I found the author’s interjections added to the story rather than detracted.

I adored the character of Inigo Montoya and also liked Fessik but found Buttercup annoying in the extreme.
And the ending was a disappointing anti-climax

I found this quite enjoyable, especially since I've seen the movie a gazillion times and only recently learned there was a book. Be forewarned, there's lots of commentary and the author frequently breaks into the story to make a point about something, and endless lessons on Florinese history. I've seen The Princess Bride in movie form so many times I have most of the script memorized. I know how it starts and ends. I know every line. I know every fight. I love it all. And despite all that, I couldn't put this book down. It was so cleverly written, so witty, so epic that I just had to keep reading. I loved that I could quote the book as I read along.
Ok, all the love out of the way...the Buttercup of the book is very different than the Buttercup of the movie. This one, is, well...dingy

The Princess Bride is one of my all=time favorite movies. So have wanted to read it for a long time. And well, bits I loved. Esp. getting backstories on Inigio and Fezzik. But I think the story and characters are so cemented in my mind that I felt a little let down.

It was good, but truthfully I like the movie better. The edition I got had a whole lot of annotations and such & that just irritates me.

Just exactly as delicious as I’d always imagined it would be!
