I learned so much about the horrors that were imparted by nuns upon the orphans in Canada due in large part to the changing political tides. I had no idea. Politics may seem so far removed but our choices of leaders has always had direct consequences on our most vulnerable populations.

I really enjoyed this book -once started I could not put it down. I had no idea about this tragic time in Quebec and the horrible experience for those orphans whose only mistake was being born in the “wrong” circumstances. I think it is an important read for that reason alone, but the storyline and the characters kept me engaged -with some melodramatic romance thrown in there for good measure. Ms. Goodman wrote an emotionally packed novel regarding the misuse of power. It's heart breaking to read and yet the amazing power of personal will power to grasp the hope for the next day. It's always humbling to read how far yet how little society has changed in regard to the care of small children and the mentally ill. ...more

What a sad sad story. The fact that orphanages and governments did this to children is outrageous. I think it ended a little perfect but I want to believe that some good could come out of this story. Also Maggie forgave her mom and dad much to quickly.
