Overall: Clever idea but it was hard to keep track of the characters. It finished strong.

The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle is hard to categorize as anything other than suspense but it’s got a sci-fi twist thrown in for sure.

Evelyn Hardcastle is going to die, 7.5 times as the title states. Our narrator keeps waking up in a Groundhog Day-like scenario where it is always the day Evelyn dies—but the narrator wakes up as a different person. Thus we get the story from each character and we also ge ...more

A man wakes up in a forest on the country estate of Blackheath. He has no memory except for the name 'Anna' and the sense that he is not himself. But nothing is as it seems here, not even the title of the book which was originally 'The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle' when it was first published in the UK and changed to 'The Seven and a Half Deaths' in the USA version. How many deaths must this Evelyn suffer?

Shelves: magical-realism, psychological-fiction, suspense, audiobook, cozy-mystery, crime, eccentric-characters, surprise-twist, annoying-characters, detective

This was an incredibly unique book, very creative the way it was told. But I spent the majority of it horribly confused. I listed to the audio version of that, and perhaps that was my mistake - this might be a book you need the hardcopy of so you can flip back and re-read sections. But I spent so much time trying to figure out what was going on, that when they finally explained the major premise, it wasn't enough to make up for the rest of the book.
