I try to be open, to accept all cultures. I teach history and so obviously that's part of my trade. BUT I have never been able, nor do I ever want to, a culture that encourages women that it is safe and right to hide behind a burka. Absolutely a must read for anyone, especially women in the US who have no idea what it's like being deemed property. Nothing comes close here that can open the eyes to how women are viewed other places.

What a beautiful story. I loved the insider look at Afghanistan's recent history and that it was told from the point of view of two amazing women. I found it especially humbling to think that Laila and I were born just a year apart and to think of the extreme differences in our lives. This book is going to make my list of all time favorites.
