“All Creatures Great and Small” is book one in a beloved series by James Herriott, a Yorkshire veterinarian who has chronicled his mid-20th century practice with great loving detail. Herriott begins by comparing the clinical details of his veterinary textbook with the reality of trying to deliver a baby calf in the midst of muck and mud and snow. My parents gave me a copy of All Creatures Great and Small for my eighth-grade graduation. I spent the summer before going into high school with James Herriot, exploring the world of the Yorkshire Dales.
As a fan of Doctor Who, my main interest in the BBC series based on the book was that it gave us Peter Davison as the Doctor.
Now, the series is being rebooted for the small screen and I decided it was time to visit Herriot's world again.

Loved it! It's charming, it's serious, it's funny, and it's lovely. I listened to it off and on for 4 days, and could have listened a lot longer.
