I saw the movie before I read the book, so I already knew what to expect, right? Not really! This was a great book, but quite different from the movie. (I really liked the movie too, but then again, I'm much easier to please when it comes to movies than when it comes to books). For starters, there is not much romance at all, so if you saw the movie you'll know much of it was fabricated.

As a huge fan of dystopian stories, The Giver had been sitting on my TBR for ages—ever since I watched the movie back in 2020. Honestly, I’m surprised to say this, but I actually liked the movie more! The concept and dystopian setting were fantastic, but the book itself felt a bit... unfinished. Almost a 5 stars! I just can't quite accept the ending. Not that I'm against open endings but the way it happened it was just cruel. (view spoiler)
Besides that, the story was wonderful and I wanted to know more about that dystopia.
