What Members Thought

Very good book. Well-written, tight and with a very fast pacing. It's also a standalone, in case you are a bit tired with long trilogies.
What I liked:
Vivid worldbuilding: The small village Agniezka lives in, the Dragon's tower and the Wood are great. The Wood, specially.
Great "villain": The Wood is an unstoppable force of nature, unrelenting and unforgiving. Twisted, mysterious and dark. Imagine if forests or trees had magical powers or at least the same level of consciousness of this Wood.

It is good to discover a very gifted writer, that creates a believable fantasy world.
Lots of misteries: why does the Dragon (a sorcerer) chooses a girl each ten years to live wih him in the tower. And, why these girls, after this time, just come back to say goodbye and never more come back ?
Would Agnieszka and the Dragon be able to beat the corruption ?
What is the Wood ? Where does it strength comes from ?
Lots of questions and all answered in the end :-) A book to read and reread to reinterpret ...more

5 bright stars. Speechless. It was a complete surprise. I did not expect much when I started and found a stunning fantasy book. The magic system is very beautiful, visceral and poetic. Agnyeshkah is everything and a little more. The romance is subtle and realistic... Everything was perfect, including Sarkan ;)

4.5 stars.
This is an amazing book - and one I would recommend going into blindly. So, I will only say this: if you like well constructed stories and unique folklore tales, you will definitely like this.
