Justice (Leopard's Spots #10) in Totally Bound Publishing

'Justice' is the latest installment in Bailey Bradford's 'Leopard's Spots' series and I'm thrilled that the author has managed to keep the sexiness and intrigue going. Rumor has it that the author is currently working on book number eleven, so I'm guessing there are more stories to tell. This one hit me hard because of the deep emotional and psychological trauma Paul has suffered. As usual though, the writing is fast paced, the characters are strong, and the story kept me guessing.

This one hit me hard because of the deep emotional and psychological trauma Paul has suffered. As usual though, the writing is fast paced, the characters are strong, and the story kept me guessing.

Paul has had a pretty crappy couple of years. Being sold into human slavery was bad enough. Finding out shifters exist and that they were the ones holding him captive was horrifying. It would appear there are some shifters out there who believe they have the right to keep humans as their pets and they've gone to great lengths to ensure their "business" isn't threatened. With the help of Paul's brother, Preston, he was rescued by the FBI and now has taken refuge in Colorado with a family of snow leopards, his brother, and his brother's mate. But just because he's been rescued doesn't mean his troubles are over. Paul refuses to see a therapist to help him deal with his abduction and he is spiraling into extremely unhealthy behavior.

Justice is a snow leopard shifter who lives in Phoenix. He missed the last family reunion and Grandma Marybeth hasn't forgiven him yet. So when his little sister, Vivian, asks him to drive her to Colorado to put her newly acquired therapy license to use, of course he agrees. As it stands Justice feels like it's his fault anyway that Vivian doesn't drive and gets panic attacks just sitting in the driver's seat. Justice was deployed in Iraq when Vivian and her friends were involved in a horrible alcohol induced car accident and Justice blames himself for not being there to protect his sister.

When Justice and Paul meet, and that's a sexy scene, discovering they're mates is not the best news at the time. Justice knows Paul is going to hate him for being a shifter, and Paul can't figure out why fate seems to hate him so much. They slowly start getting to know one another and the mate bond between them. When it's almost time for Justice to head home and back to his job, he runs into Cliff out in the woods. I was hoping to get a glimpse of him again! Cliff has been watching over Paul, hunting down and killing the shifters responsible for the slavery ring. But he warns Justice that they'll be coming for Paul, so it makes Justice's decision to stay and protect his mate that much easier.

I really liked Paul and Justice's story. Because of what Paul suffered, the pace of parts of the story were slower and portrayed very gently with a lot of sweetness. Getting vengeance - okay I was going to say justice, but that wouldn't work - against the shifters that hurt Paul and others was very satisfying. Watching Paul stand up for himself was even more so. I enjoy this series very much and am thankful that Bailey Bradford indulges my need for shifters and men loving on men!
