Either I’m getting soft in my old age, or the books I’ve been picking lately are just raw, emotional weepers! Admittedly I didn’t like Eleanor at first, but as her story unfolds you feel for her, you root for her, you want to give her a hug. Makes you look at what you think your version of a crappy childhood was and realize that there’s always someone out there who had it worse.

Don't let anybody fool you. This is a horror story. Parts of it gave me goosebumps and shivers.
This story has a monster. And, almost as scary, the victim is saved, or at least put on the road to salvation, only by a random act of… Fate?
Eleanor's character was great. Very controlled, isolated, to the point of appearing slightly autistic. Pain, fear, ignorance, self-loathing pushed down, so far down. In the clutches of the monster.
