After knowing about this book for some time, I finally got a copy and got around to reading it. Thankfully, another publishing company picked it up because the original copies were going for a hefty price.
As for the novel itself, what can be said? It's a terrific read. The writing style is easy to follow, the actions of the characters are basically believable in the situations presented, and the research was incredible.

It's not World War Z, but it's still a very good zombie novel.
The book is written as the nearly daily journal of a nameless man who survives the dead rising. He's a military pilot who suspects early on that there's a serious problem and starts to prepare to survive in his house. The author is also in the military so he's able to put in lots of details that make the world he built feel very real.

This books sort of reads like your friend decided to write a novel and wanted you to proof read it for him. It is good, but seems a little raw.

I had read some amazing reviews of this novel and I would agree with most of them. I have often found that the journal format, while popular in the zombie genre, is often not done well - I often question the reality of the narrator pausing in the middle of a huge zombie attack to write down his thoughts and feelings - but J.L. Bourne does an excellent job. The story is realistic (as much as you can get with zombies running around) and the narrator never got on my nerves.

When I initially looked up this book there were a lot of bad reviews on Amazon concerning the grammar and spelling. To those people: IT'S A FUCKING DIARY!
This is written as though a young man is writing a daily journal as the horrific events unfold. This is a great book and a must-read for zombie/apocalypse fans. AND it ends with a sequel in mind! ...more

In my car, I have a couple of MRE's that my dad gave me. I realize after reading this, that when it all goes down, and zombies take over the earth for real, it won't be nearly enough to ensure my survival.

OK, I read a lot of zombie horror stories. Quite a few are pure drek, little more than gore, violence, and ironmogery. This was one that I thought well reasoned and plotted within the subject matter. I look forward to the sequel.

Loved it. Great zombie story. I have to read the next one to see if it explains why zombies are speeding up and retaining some ingrained memories!

Felt a bit like reading World War Z meets The Walking Dead written by Tom Clancy.
